On 30 January 2013, Blackberry makers confirmed the launch of its new operating system Blackberry 10 along with the announcement of BlackBerry Z10 handset. BlackBerry Z10 is a touch screen device & is the first handset to run BlackBerry 10 operating system. Earlier, BlackBerry phones were not so good at multimedia and running the third-party applications. The new BlackBerry Z10 phone is an effort to improve these two important features.
Features Of BlackBerry Z10 Phone:
BlackBerry Z10 has 4.2-inch screen & 1,280 x 768 display. I did notice that Z10 is slightly longer and heavier than the iPhone 5. On the other hand, iPhone 5 outshines BlackBerry Z10 when both the handsets are set to maximum brightness.
Processor & RAM:
BlackBerry Z10 comes with a 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 dual-core CPU with 2GB of RAM & 16 gigabytes of storage, along with the memory-card slot for expansion. The phones doesn’t allow the cards larger than 32GB.
BlackBerry Z10 has two cameras. The 8-megapixel camera with LED flash which records videos of 1080p is located at the back panel of the phone on the top-left corner. The front panel has a 2-megapixel camera which takes videos of 720p. The most interesting thing which iI have seen while using the camera is the Time Shift feature. This feature will allow you to wind back time on selected portions of photos to make sure that the image has captured properly. For example, Suppose you took the photograph of two people & one of the them had the eyes closed in the finished shot, then you can select that face and wind back, frame by frame, to find a moment when his eyes were open. With this moment found, only this portion of the final photo needs to be amended.
BlackBerry Z10 is coated with rubber which feels good in the hand and ensures it doesn’t slip up off from your end. The back side of phone allows you to swap in a spare battery very quickly and allows quick access to the stuff like Micro SD memory & SIM card.
One interested feature included in BlackBerry 10 is the touchscreen keyboard, which predicts text in a different way as compare to iOS or Android. When you type, the OS tries to guess the word you are trying to spell out, and displays the complete word for the next letter above the virtual keypad. If you think it’s right, then you can just flick upward, and the word appears in front of your screen. The feature supposedly gets better the more you use it, and even works in up to three languages at once.
You can share your phone’s screen to share photos, videos & apps to the person at the other end with the help screen sharing option on a single tap. The video chats are only possible between BlackBerry 10 phones.
The biggest highlight which I found in Blackberry 10 is Hub. It allows you to access the application from one single account. The Applications like twittter, linkedin & Facebook can be accessible with BlackBerry 10 hub. Once you sign in with your facebook or twitter account in Hub, then all notifications and emails from the applications will be received in the Hub. BlackBerry Hub is accessible even if you have another application open in front of you. One can switch from one application to an email without opening an email account. The Hub also provides a quick access at your calendar, I have seen many features when i launched the Calendar app like setting up the meeting, appointments for the day, and many more . Really impressed with BlackBerry Hub.
Blackberry Z10 has some impressive and useful feature, despite its first new OS. BlackBerry 10 phone comes with some apps like Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare. You can also download other apps such as Angry Birds & many apps.
BlackBerry Z10 feature Balance allows you to segregate work email & personal email on the same devices via BlackBerry Enterprise Service. Hence it becomes easy for those who are using the same phone for corporate and individual task. As of now, this feature is available to government agencies and corporate clients.
BlackBerry Z10 is a great email manager tool & it has much better functions as compare to earlier BlackBerry devices. However, the biggest barrier to BlackBerry Z10 is that the iPhone and Android have become first choice of buyer when it comes apps and one would need strong reason to try something else. BlackBerry 10 is nice, but I am not fully convinced to buy this phone if I were to choose between any other smart phone and the new Blackberry 10.
Would you go for the all new Blackberry 10? If yes, please let me know why.
